A 10 week course for beginners and enthusiasts. Weeks 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are class lessons with handouts you can download. Week 9 is a review of the class project. The project will be introduced in week 6.

1. Introduction and Basic Concepts (Handouts 1 and 2).
Cameras and how they work. Camera buttons, dials, controls and menus. Automatic Exposure and Scene Modes. An introduction to Aperture, Shutter and ISO.

2. Light and Photographic Exposure (Handout 3).
Properties of Light. The Exposure Triangle. Over, Under and Appropriate Exposure. The Histogram Tool. The Light Meter and Metering Modes.

3. Exposure Practical Session
A chance to experiment with the camera settings that control exposure.

4. The Art of Photography -Composition 1 (Handout 4).
The Photographic Frame. Guiding Principals, the Rule of Thirds, the Golden Mean and Dynamic Symmetry.

5. The Art of Photography -Composition 2 (Handout 5).
Frame Dynamics and Gestalt Theory.

6. Camera Practical Session and Project
Using Aperture and Shutter Priority and an investigation of Depth of Field.

7. Capturing and Managing Images (Handout 6).
Managing a Photographic Collection. Import, Classify, Manage and Process.

8. Image Processing (Handout 7).
Correcting Exposure, Colour Correction, Cropping, Dodging, Burning and Cloning.

9. Project Review
Your chance to show and discuss your project Photographs.

10. Q and A
A final session giving you a chance to ask questions or revisit some of the class lessons.
